New York Stock Exchange opens mixed after tariff agreement between the US and EU

At 2:45 PM Lisbon time, the Dow Jones index fell 0.08% to 44,865.17 points.

Conversely, the S&P500 rose 0.13% to 6,396.93 points, while the Nasdaq gained 0.34%, reaching 21,180.09 points.

On Friday, the New York Stock Exchange ended the week with new records for the broad S&P500 index and the technology-heavy Nasdaq, as investors were optimistic about trade negotiations and pleased with corporate earnings results.

The S&P500 increased by 0.40% to a record 6,388.64 points at the close, marking its fifth consecutive record, and the Nasdaq rose by 0.24% to an unprecedented 21,108.32 points at the end of the trading session. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced by 0.47%.

The trade agreement between the European Union and the United States, reached on Sunday, sets U.S. tariffs on European products at 15%.

The agreement also includes the EU’s commitment to purchase American energy valued at $750 billion (approximately 642 billion euros) — aimed at replacing Russian gas — along with an additional investment of $600 billion (514 billion euros) and an increase in military equipment acquisitions.

The U.S. and EU nations exchange approximately 4.4 billion euros in goods and services daily.
