The fire is progressing between the localities of Aldeia do Bispo and Aldeia de João Pires.
Pedro Nunes, the coordinator of the Sub-regional Command of Beira Baixa, stated to Lusa news agency that the fire is ongoing, is approaching Aldeia de João Pires, and they are awaiting the arrival of requested ground reinforcements.
“We are defining the entire operation, we are making a perimeter defense in Aldeia de João Pires and safeguarding possessions and homes,” Pedro Nunes explained to Lusa.
According to the coordinator of the Sub-Regional Command of Beira Baixa, current conditions are not favorable for fighting the flames, considering factors like heat, wind, relative humidity, and combustible material.
As reported on the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority’s website, at 18:10, 232 personnel were mobilized for the incident, supported by 63 vehicles and 13 aerial units.
Pedro Nunes mentioned that ground reinforcements are approximately 20 minutes away from the site, in the Castelo Branco district, and they will wait to manage according to the fire’s development.
