The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, and the Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, will visit the headquarters of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) today to address the “critical situation” of the wildfires.
Speaking at the Commitment Ceremony of the 20th Training Course for PSP Agents in Torres Novas, which marked the induction of 400 new officers into the police force, Maria Lúcia Amaral highlighted that the decision was made today during the event, in coordination with the Prime Minister.
“We agreed just now, given the critical situation, especially in the North of the country, that we both will go to the headquarters of the National Authority for Civil Protection,” the minister stated to the press.
The head of Internal Administration justified the visit by the need to understand the development of the situation, considering the adverse weather forecasts for the coming days, including high temperatures, strong winds, and low humidity.
“We want to be fully informed about what is happening and what can be expected,” said the minister, emphasizing the urgency of the visit and urging respect for the officials of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection.
The minister did not specify whether there will be an immediate reinforcement of aerial resources, one of the main demands of the mayors in the affected areas.
