Creature, Emmy Curl and Them Flying Monkeys at the Clarão festival

The Clarão festival, organized by Claraboia – Associação Cultural, returns to Quinta da Ribafria in Sintra for its second edition on September 12, 13, and 14, with free entry, the organization announced in a statement.

This year’s edition of Clarão will focus on emerging artists, featuring a lineup that aims to blend projects from the independent music scene with artists already familiar to the public.

The music lineup includes acts such as Criatura, Chyna, Emmy Curl, Harley KSD, Them Flying Monkeys, Libra, Rossana, Fvbricia, Menino Manequim, Stealing Canvas, and Coco Voador, with performances split between two stages.

Between these stages, the Artist and Collective Fair will host over 50 artists, associations, and collectives who will showcase and sell their work.

On the last two days of Clarão, September 13 and 14, two open-air cinema sessions will be held featuring emerging filmmakers, screening six Portuguese short films and two international ones.

Post-screening discussions with directors and “special guests” are also scheduled.

The festival will host a group exhibition displaying works by Cláudia Simões, Sofia Cabañas, Mariana Laginha, and Brecht de Vleeschauwer.

Moreover, installations in direct dialogue with the architecture of Quinta da Ribafria’s gardens will be presented by Luísa Ramires, Margarida Lopes Pereira, Sepher Awk, and Lukanu Mpasi.

On the first day, September 12, an Artist Meeting will be hosted in collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation, offering an opportunity for open dialogue about Sintra-related topics, along with a collective painting and writing session and a jam session.

Following this, Clarão invites the public and a panel of artists, journalists, activists, association members, and festival producers for a series of debates and discussions led by various entities throughout the remaining festival days.

In this context, teatromosca will host a discussion titled “The Audiences and the Artists,” the MIL festival will explore festival case studies around the country in “Critical Thinking in Festival Programming,” and Dínamo will lead other discussions under the theme “Artistic Connections: The Periphery as a Space for Transformation.”

The program also includes free workshops on contemporary artistic practices, where artists become teachers and bring participants closer to the art-making process.

The complete Clarão festival program is available on the official website of Claraboia – Associação Cultural at www.claraboiasintra.pt/clarao/.
