“Aerial means, in complement with ground resources, are essentially the key to achieving and succeeding in fire combat,” stated Mário Silvestre following the status update on the fires held this afternoon at the headquarters of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection.
The official was responding to journalists’ questions regarding the statements made by the Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, who earlier today considered the number of aerial firefighting resources irrelevant, given that the “difficulty for operatives” in the ongoing fires is due to the terrain characteristics.
