During the night and early morning, the fire advanced rapidly towards the village of Germil. “In one to two hours, the fire will reach Germil. Hence the importance of aerial resources. They are not to fight shrubs; we have several homes in the area. We must combat the fire to protect the populations, and we will not have aerial resources deployed in Germil,” stated Augusto Marinho.
Speaking to the Lusa agency at 10 a.m., the social-democratic mayor of Ponte da Barca, in the district of Viana do Castelo, added that another concern is the fire spreading in the Serra Amarela region.
“We are trying to control this firefront heading – if not already – towards Terras de Bouro, in the district of Braga,” he emphasized.
According to Augusto Marinho, “in the fight against the fire in Serra Amarela, two aerial resources are engaged, working in rotation, which in practice means only one aerial resource is operating at the fire.”
“We received information that two Spanish aerial resources are going to be mobilized, but by 10:03 a.m., they had not yet arrived,” he said.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority’s (ANEPC) website, by 10:18 a.m., the fire, which broke out on Saturday, mobilized 407 operatives, supported by 135 vehicles and two aerial resources.
