The GNR reported that following police investigations, it was determined the suspect allegedly subjected his wife, aged 58, to psychological and physical abuse.
The man was arrested on Tuesday by officers from the Valpaços Territorial Post, with support from the Chaves Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC).
During the operation, officers executed a detention warrant and a home search warrant, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the seizure of three shotguns, an air rifle, 30 cartridges, and 15 buckshot cartridges.
In a statement, the GNR indicated that the detainee was made an official suspect and the case was reported to the Chaves Judicial Court.
The National Republican Guard emphasized that domestic violence is a public crime and reporting it is a collective responsibility.
