“At this moment, we have an active front of about 3.5 kilometers in Cinfães (Viseu district). The head of the fire is under control, with consolidation and mopping-up operations underway,” stated the source.
Earlier this morning, in a statement to journalists, the sub-regional commander of Emergency and Civil Protection for Greater Lisbon, Hugo Santos, had mentioned that the municipalities of Arouca and Castelo de Paiva had no active fire zones.
At that time, the commander also noted that only a “small line of fire” remained active in the municipality of Cinfães, in the Viseu district, which he hoped would be extinguished soon, although this had not yet occurred.
According to initial estimates, the Arouca fire, with a perimeter of more than 48 kilometers, consumed an area of over 4500 hectares of forest.
The fire caused damage to an abandoned house, some farm annexes, and minor damage to two homes. It also destroyed part of the Passadiços do Paiva, one of the main sources of revenue for the local economy of Arouca.
As of 21:45, according to the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), 483 personnel were mobilized to combat the flames, supported by 181 vehicles.
