The housing units are part of two new residential blocks, featuring T1, T2, and T3 configurations, located in the Vale Formoso de Cima area of Marvila. Construction began in 2023.
The project required an investment of approximately 9.3 million euros, funded in part by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
The Lisbon City Council stated that this housing forms part of a broader municipal project in Vale Formoso de Cima, which also includes ongoing construction of another building for affordable rent, comprising 105 apartments ranging from T0 to T4.
During a ceremony held this afternoon, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas (PSD), alongside the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, handed over the keys to 50 families, emphasizing the municipality’s efforts in housing.
“This is your home, your right,” the mayor remarked, adding, “handing over a key is transforming a life, changing a family.”
Following the ceremony, in his statements to journalists, Carlos Moedas highlighted the housing work achieved during the current term, noting that 2,744 keys have been distributed.
“We managed to deliver 2,744 keys when, for 10 years, almost nothing was built in Lisbon. It must be noted that there was a decade of stagnation, with only 17 homes built per year,” he pointed out.
The mayor further noted Lisbon’s 12% municipal housing share, expressing the intention to increase this number.
“Few European cities have this percentage. We have over 12% and we will continue to enhance this. We are maintaining our efforts because it is very important,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, highlighted the national effort, stating that 12,000 homes have been delivered, with another 8,000 expected by year-end.
“Housing is not just an issue for Lisbon, Porto, Leiria, or Beja; it’s everyone’s problem. We must recognize we are addressing only a small part. Do not expect housing prices to change in the next month or in the coming months,” the minister warned.
