According to Pedro Araújo, this fire “has no front that is evolving unfavorably, beyond the control of firefighters.”
Despite being under control, this fire, which had spread to the neighboring municipalities of Castelo de Paiva and Cinfães, was being tackled by 426 personnel and 157 land vehicles as of 07:00.
Preliminary estimates indicate that this Arouca fire had a perimeter of over 48 kilometers and consumed an area of more than 4,500 hectares of forest.
The blaze caused damage to an unoccupied house, some agricultural annexes, minor damage to two homes, and destroyed part of the Paiva Walkways, which are a major source of revenue for the local economy of Arouca.
