
Trofa Volunteer Firefighters rescued a dog trapped by flames in a challenging situation during a fire in Penafiel on Thursday night. After being saved, the animal remained with the team, assisting in the aftermath and surveillance operations.
The firefighting team discovered the dog surrounded by flames while battling a blaze in Sebolido, Penafiel.
A statement on Facebook from the Trofa Volunteer Firefighters noted, “During the firefighting efforts, the team managed to save the animal, which did not want to leave afterward.”
Throughout the night, “the dog stayed alongside the firefighters, accompanying them during the aftermath and surveillance until morning, showing silent gratitude for its rescued life.”
The team described the incident as symbolizing “the animal’s unconditional loyalty.”
The Trofa Volunteer Firefighters also shared a video, available here, showcasing the dog with the firefighters.
Since Monday, numerous rural fires have impacted mainland Portugal, particularly the North, Center, and Alentejo regions, forcing village evacuations.
Both firefighters and civilians received assistance, with no severe injuries reported. There were no reports of destroyed homes, but forest, agricultural, and livestock areas, as well as outbuildings, were burned.
