Several roads cut off in Sabrosa due to the fire

Roads between São Martinho de Anta and Garganta, specifically “between the Anta roundabout and the pontoon at the municipal boundary with Vila Real (São Cibrão),” and between Sabrosa’s industrial zone and Feitais, are closed to traffic, as announced by the Sabrosa Municipality on social media.

As of 9 PM, 282 responders supported by 86 vehicles were on-site, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority.

The fire, originating in São Cibrão, Vila Real, spread to Sabrosa with two active and intense fronts, creating major concern for the villages of Anta and Garganta, said the Douro sub-regional commander in the late afternoon.

Miguel Fonseca informed Lusa agency of a change in wind direction and increased intensity, noting the fire’s fierce spread across mature pine forest sections.

The commander highlighted that Anta and Garganta are of significant concern, leading to a concentration of resources in these villages.

A source from Sabrosa Civil Protection added that as a precaution, Garganta villagers have gathered in the village center, and the fire continues toward other areas like São Martinho de Anta and Arcã.

In mid-July, another large-scale fire in Sabrosa necessitated the evacuation of two villages, involving nearly 400 responders on the ground.
