A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley Directorate of the Judicial Police (PJ) on Friday, August 1st, in Sintra, on suspicion of committing three crimes of child sexual abuse. The victim is a three-year-old girl, his niece.
In a statement released today, it was explained that the suspect, “a resident of Portugal since 2018, had been part of the victim’s household since 2022.”
“In 2024, the child’s father left the country due to professional reasons, and the mother, who works shifts, ended up entrusting her daughter to the care of the uncle,” the PJ further disclosed.
In this context, the suspect “coerced the child into suffering acts of sexual abuse,” and, “despite her age, the girl revealed the incident to her mother, who immediately reported the case to the authorities.”
PJ’s investigations led to the suspect’s arrest “within the first 24 hours of the crime report being communicated by the Public Security Police (PSP) to this Police.”
Presented for preliminary judicial interrogation, he was remanded in custody.
