
Firefighters anticipate that the four major wildfires currently burning in mainland Portugal, specifically in Vila Real, Celorico de Basto, Arcos de Valdevez, and Fafe, will be brought under control today.
Speaking to Lusa at 7:20 a.m., Pedro Araújo, operations officer at the National Command, stated that the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) has the “expectation of being able to declare these four fires under control” today.
At that time, there were “four significant incidents”: in Vila Real (with the fire being fought by 332 personnel, supported by 111 vehicles), Celorico de Basto (302 personnel and 105 vehicles), Fafe (64 personnel and 21 vehicles), and Arcos de Valdevez (42 personnel and 11 vehicles).
According to Pedro Araújo, from 8:30 a.m., firefighting efforts will be bolstered by aerial resources.
