The dog named ‘Duque,’ who was rescued from a burning house in the village of Cuba, Beja district, at the end of July, has died.
On July 31, images of the rescue were sent by the Guarda Nacional Republicana to Notícias ao Minuto. Authorities explained in a statement that the dog was chained inside the residence.
The alert was raised, and when authorities arrived, the house was already “consumed by the flames.”
Faced with the severity of the situation and “with the animal’s life at risk,” one of the Guarda Nacional Republicana officers entered the house and managed to rescue the animal.
However, the animal died a few hours later from its injuries. On social media, several posts remembered Duque, including associations from other districts.

On Facebook, the Association for the Protection and Support of Stray Animals and the Vigilantes da Estrada page remembered Duque at the end of July.
This was not the only canine to make headlines following a rescue during a fire. The Trofa Volunteer Firefighters saved another dog, trapped by flames in a challenging situation during a fire in Penafiel, on Thursday night. After being rescued, the animal did not abandon the station and participated in the mop-up and surveillance activities.
