“In Ermelo, we had a house affected by the fire, which is so far the only residence impacted in the municipality,” said Bruno Ferreira, explaining that it was a former forestry house converted into a dwelling, which “was completely devastated.”
The fire, which started on Saturday in Sirarelhos, Vila Real, spread to Mondim de Basto, where there are three active, unconnected points requiring significant attention, namely in Pardelhas, Ermelo, and Fervença.
The Mayor of Mondim de Basto also noted that in Pardelhas, the fire “remains very close” to the village, while in Fervença, the “tracked machinery provided significant assistance in fighting the blaze.”
In Pardelhas, there was an issue with a lack of potable water, likely due to its use in fire prevention. As a result, the municipality has already replenished the village’s water tanks.
In this municipality, National Road 304, which connects Alto do Velão to Ermelo, remains closed to traffic.
According to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) website, as of 17:15, approximately 506 personnel were deployed for this incident, along with 162 vehicles and eight aircraft.
