Last month was the sixth warmest July and the seventh driest since 2000.

The IPMA Monthly Bulletin, released today, reveals that in July 2025, the average air temperature was 23.6°C, lower than the 2022 peak of 25.1°C but still one degree above the 1991-2020 normal value.

The average maximum air temperature recorded was 30.9°C, marking it as the fifth highest in the last 25 years.

A new minimum temperature record of 22.5°C was noted on July 4th in Cabeceiras de Basto.

Additionally, the total monthly precipitation in July was “far below normal, amounting to only 33% of the average value for the 1991-2020 period.”

The IPMA document highlights an increase in the continental area affected by meteorological drought, with 62% experiencing mild drought and 5% facing moderate drought, particularly affecting some parts of the northwest region.
