Fires: 150 municipalities in the interior North and Center and Algarve at maximum risk

All municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Guarda, and Viseu, along with most in the districts of Vila Real, Porto, Braga, and Castelo Branco, are at maximum fire risk, according to IPMA.

Dozens of municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Coimbra, Aveiro, Santarém, Leiria, Portalegre, and Faro are also at maximum risk.

Approximately 40 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Portalegre, Beja, and Faro are at very high risk.

The IPMA has placed nearly the entire Alentejo region and about 30 municipalities in the districts of Porto, Braga, Aveiro, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon, and Faro at high risk.

Today, nearly 40 municipalities, mainly coastal, in the districts of Porto, Aveiro, Leiria, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Faro are under moderate risk.

The IPMA’s fire risk levels range from reduced to maximum, with the latter issued when meteorological conditions such as extreme heat and low humidity significantly increase the danger of ignition and spread of fires.

Continental Portugal is under alert from Sunday until Thursday due to the heightened fire risk, as announced by the Minister of Internal Administration on Saturday.

The IPMA forecasts continued hot weather today, with mostly clear skies, sometimes with mist along the coastal belt.

Winds are expected to be light, with a rise in maximum temperature anticipated in Minho and Douro Litoral.

Minimum temperatures will range from 16 degrees Celsius (Sines and Leiria) to 24 degrees (Portalegre), while maximum temperatures will vary between 28 degrees (Aveiro) and 41 degrees (Braga and Évora).
