
The jury awarded honorable mentions to “Este Caminho Nómada” by Álvaro Giesta and “Assim Morre a Eternidade” by David Bene.
The panel of judges noted the poetic quality exhibited by the three literary works, distinguishing them among the 61 submissions analyzed in the fifth edition of the contest.
The jury also highlighted “the inaugural and genesis-like poetic discourse” of the work, as well as “the poetic maturity” of João Pedro Porto.
Born in 1984, João Pedro Porto is the author of four novels: “Porta Azul para Macau,” “O 2egundo M1nuto,” “O Rochedo,” and “A Brecha.”
He also published the short story “O Homem da Mansarda,” among other contributions to the press.
The winning work will be published by the City Council of Ponta Delgada, and the author will receive a cash prize of 7,500 euros. A minimum print run of 250 copies will be ensured in both paper and digital formats.
The Natália Correia Literary Prize was established to “encourage and support the development of literary arts, foster creativity, and promote the enjoyment of reading and writing.”
Created in 2021, it aims to recognize authors with original and unpublished works written in Portuguese.
In 2024, the genre in the contest was narrative. The jury decided to award the prize to “Caindo de mais alto” by João Albano Fernandes, with an honorable mention for “Esperanças e Desilusões” by Luís Corredoura.
