Man accused of sexually assaulting 2 children in a group in Rio. PJ arrested him in the Algarve.

A man suspected of abusing two children in Brazil over five years ago was arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Monday. The individual was apprehended in the Algarve region and has been residing in Portugal for the past five years while working in Lagos.

“Between 2016 and 2019, deliberately and consciously, in conjunction with other men, the suspect allegedly abused two children on several occasions in the Rio de Janeiro region, Brazil,” stated the PJ in a note issued this Thursday.

A 37-year-old man was under an international arrest warrant issued by Brazilian judicial authorities last month, as disclosed in a communication sent to Notícias ao Minuto.

Authorities explained that the individual was detained in the Algarve region and, due to suspicions of child sexual abuse, faces the risk of a 15-year prison sentence.

He appeared before the Court of Appeal in Évora, where it was decided he would remain in preventive detention while awaiting extradition.

This week, a Brazilian woman was also detained in Portugal and is currently in preventive detention awaiting extradition. The case involves homicide, with the woman, Gisele Oliveira, suspected of killing five children.

The PJ clarified after the woman’s arrest in Pombal that Gisele Oliveira sedated the children over the years, causing them health problems and ultimately their deaths.

Gisele Oliveira, 40, was detained in Portugal by the Polícia Judiciária following the issuance of an international arrest warrant. The deaths of five children over a 13-year period in Brazil are in question. Her husband, and the father of three of the deceased children, believes in Gisele’s innocence.

This woman also had an international arrest warrant against her. According to Interpol, “all situations took place in the house where the woman lived and almost always at night,” thus lacking “the presence of witnesses.”

The partner and father of three of the five deceased victims is not a defendant in the process and, as reported by Correio da Manhã on Thursday, told the PJ that the woman was innocent.
