New York Stock Exchange starts ‘in the green’ on a day of new tariffs

At 2:48 PM in Lisbon, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 0.35% to 44,349.25 points, while the Nasdaq advanced 0.79% to 21,335.98 points.

The S&P 500 also rose, gaining 0.47% to 6,375.13 points.

Within the Dow Jones, only Caterpillar saw a decline among the 30 listed companies, while Apple (up 2.35%) and Nvidia (up 1.49%) showed the strongest growth.

On the previous day, final session results indicated that the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.18%, the Nasdaq advanced 1.21%, and the broader S&P 500 gained 0.73%.

Today’s market activity is highlighted by the implementation of new tariffs on imports from a large number of countries, including those in the European Union, which will now face customs duties of 15%.

Despite concerns that these tariffs could harm the economy, investor sentiment has been buoyed by Federal Reserve interest rate cut expectations and a series of positive corporate earnings reports.
