The latest data from the Portuguese Firefighters League reveals that the professionals who were injured and the firefighter who died between January 1 and August 5 were on duty when these incidents occurred. The events resulted from accidents or during firefighting efforts.
The fatality reported occurred due to an accident on January 1 in Odemira. A fire truck returning from a firefighting mission had an accident, resulting in the death of one firefighter and injuries to the other four occupants.
“This level of accidents, even if minor in some cases, is highlighted by the PFL as a serious reason for monitoring insurance, its values, and coverage,” the statement reads.
The Portuguese Firefighters League also noted dissatisfaction with the recent insurance update, stating it did not meet the levels advocated, particularly for burn victims.
