According to the IPMA, these two districts will be under a red warning from 9 a.m. on Saturday until midnight on Monday.
The orange warning, the second most severe level, has been extended to Monday in the districts of Viseu, Guarda, and Castelo Branco, and starting Sunday, the districts of Portalegre, Évora, and Beja will also be under this warning due to persistently high maximum temperatures.
The yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, has also been extended to Monday for the North and Center coastlines and the districts of Santarém, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Faro. This means that from Sunday onward, no district in the country will be without warnings due to the heat.
The government renewed the countrywide alert situation on Thursday, extending it until Wednesday, August 13, due to the risk of forest fires.
The renewal of the alert situation is based on two main reasons: the continued high temperatures expected across the country in the coming days and the reduction in ignitions due to the imposed prohibitions.
Among the measures in effect is the prohibition of access, circulation, and presence in forested areas, in accordance with municipal forest fire defense plans, as well as the prohibition of burning activities, with previously issued permissions being suspended for this period.
The alert situation also bans work in forest and rural areas involving machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices. In this case, previously issued authorizations are also suspended.
