A 40-year-old man wanted by Spanish authorities has been arrested by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) in the Oeste region. He is suspected of offenses related to criminal association and murder.
In a statement issued to newsrooms on Friday, the authorities explained that “the man is the alleged leader of a criminal organization primarily involved in drug trafficking and robberies targeting other traffickers.”
The suspect is also believed to be the “alleged mastermind behind the murder of a rival criminal group member” who was killed in a shooting. The crime took place in a parking lot in February 2023, in Barcelona.
The arrest was conducted by the Criminal Information Unit in compliance with a European arrest warrant issued by Spanish judicial authorities.
The detainee has already appeared before the Lisbon Court of Appeal, where it was decided that he would “await the continuation of the extradition process under the preventive detention measure.”
