A man was detained by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday, August 6, in Carnide, Lisbon, on suspicion of illegally residing in the country and qualified disobedience.
The PSP reported that the suspect was “intercepted inside the Colombo Shopping Center” and “did not possess any document permitting him to legally stay in Portugal or the Schengen area.”
“Following inquiries with the Border and Foreigners Coordination Unit (UCFE), it was confirmed that the suspect’s residence permit application was denied in June 2025, and he was notified to voluntarily leave the country by July of the same year, a deadline which expired without the individual leaving the territory,” the statement reads.
As a result, and in compliance with existing legislation, the suspect was detained “for illegal residence in the country and for the crime of qualified disobedience, as he did not voluntarily leave the country within the stipulated period.”
The detainee will be presented to the competent judicial authority for the application of coercive measures.
