
A car accident near Avis, in the Portalegre district, involved a passenger vehicle carrying four individuals, including two adults and two children, according to the Alto Alentejo Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command.
A 40-year-old man was seriously injured and will be airlifted to Hospital de Santa Maria in Lisbon by the National Institute of Medical Emergency’s air support, which was dispatched to the scene, stated the source.
The children, an eight-year-old boy and girl, sustained minor injuries and remain at the scene along with another adult who is being assessed. This update was provided at 19:20 by the sub-regional command.
“Two of the vehicle’s occupants required extrication,” added the civil protection source.
The incident occurred on the road connecting Avis and Ervedal, with the alert issued to authorities at 18:12.
Emergency services dispatched 32 personnel supported by 14 vehicles, including units from the fire department, GNR, and INEM, to the location.
