43 degrees in Alentejo and 120 municipalities at maximum fire risk today

All municipalities in the districts of Bragança and Guarda, along with most of Viseu and Castelo Branco, are under maximum fire risk.

Dozens of municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, and Faro are also at maximum risk.

Approximately 50 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Aveiro, Coimbra, Viseu, Leiria, Lisbon, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Beja, and Faro are at very high fire risk.

The IPMA has elevated nearly the entire Alentejo region and another 30 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Lisbon, Setúbal, Coimbra, Leiria, Aveiro, Porto, and Braga to high fire risk.

Dozens of municipalities, primarily along the country’s coast in the districts of Lisbon, Aveiro, and Porto, are at moderate risk.

The fire risk determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from low to maximum, the latter being issued when weather conditions like extreme heat and low humidity significantly heighten the danger of fire ignition and spread.

Portugal is on alert until Wednesday, August 13, due to the forest fire risk.

The alert situation is justified by two main reasons: the continuation of high temperatures nationwide in the coming days and the reduction of ignitions due to imposed prohibitions.

The IPMA forecasts a slight temperature drop in the North and Center regions and a slight rise in the South region today.

The weather will remain hot, with slightly cloudy or clear skies, and the IPMA maintains the forecast of suspended dust due to the hot air mass from North Africa moving across the mainland.

Minimum temperatures will range from 15ºC in Viana do Castelo and Braga to 25ºC in Portalegre, while maximum temperatures will vary from 25ºC in Viana do Castelo to 43ºC in Beja and Évora.
