Second week of August starts hot: There are 12 districts under orange warning

The IPMA has issued an orange warning, indicating very high maximum temperatures, effective until 6:00 PM on Tuesday in Vila Real, Castelo Branco, Santarém, and Lisbon, and extending to 11:00 PM in the district of Viseu.

In the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Portalegre, Évora, Beja, Setúbal, and Faro, the warning remains active until midnight on Tuesday.

Districts under a yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, include Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Leiria, effective until 6:00 PM on Tuesday.

The government has renewed the national alert status until Wednesday, August 13, due to the forest fire risk.

The renewal is based on two main factors: the ongoing high temperatures across the country in the coming days and the reduction in fire ignitions due to imposed prohibitions.

Current measures include a ban on accessing, circulating, or remaining in forested areas in accordance with Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans and on burning and bushfires. Previously issued permits for these activities are suspended.

The alert status also prohibits forestry and rural work involving machinery, and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices, with existing permits likewise suspended.

The IPMA forecasts a slight temperature drop in the North and Central regions and a slight rise in the South.

Minimum temperatures will range from 15°C in Viana do Castelo and Braga to 25°C in Portalegre, while maximums will range from 25°C in Viana do Castelo to 43°C in Beja and Évora.
