Bragança, Évora, Guarda, Beja, Castelo Branco e Portalegre are under an orange alert, the second most severe level, due to “persistent very high maximum temperatures,” remaining in effect until 6 PM on Thursday.
The districts of Viseu and Vila Real will shift to a yellow alert starting at 6 PM on Tuesday, returning to orange alert levels between 6 AM and 6 PM on Thursday, according to a statement from the IPMA.
The orange alert for Faro, Setúbal, Santarém, and Lisbon ends at 6 PM on Tuesday, with these districts moving to a yellow alert until 6 PM on Thursday.
Porto, Viana do Castelo, and Braga are under a yellow alert until 6 PM on Thursday, while Coimbra, Aveiro, and Leiria will have the alert in effect until 6 PM on Tuesday and between 6 AM and 6 PM on Thursday.
The government has extended the alert status in the country until Wednesday, August 13, due to the risk of forest fires.
After the Council of Ministers, the government announced that the alert status in the country has been extended for a week, considering not only the weather conditions. The law on foreigners was also discussed, with the Minister of the Presidency addressing the statements of the President of the Republic.

The renewal of the alert status is based on two main reasons: the continuation of high temperatures throughout the country for the coming days and the reduction of ignitions due to imposed prohibitions.
The measures in force include the prohibition of access, circulation, and permanence within forest spaces, according to Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans, as well as the prohibition of burning and fires, with previously issued authorizations suspended.
The alert status also entails the prohibition of work in forest and rural areas using machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices. In these cases, already issued authorizations are suspended as well.
