Tabuaço, Viseu, August 12, 2025 (Lusa) — A wildfire in Tabuaço continues to have an active, hard-to-reach front, but if weather conditions are favorable, it could be controlled by early morning, according to the Civil Protection.
“At the moment, 90% of the perimeter is in mop-up and monitoring, and we have an active front about 800 meters long burning intensely in a difficult-to-access area,” said the second commander of the Cávado Civil Protection Sub-regional Command to Lusa at 8:00 PM.
Bruno Silva, who is in charge of operations at the wildfire site in Tabuaço, in the northern Viseu district, noted that this active front is on terrain “with about an 80% slope, which greatly complicates the deployment of ground resources.”
“We are trying to resolve this front, which is currently the only situation we have,” Bruno Silva added.
The Cávado second commander also stated, “There are no populations at risk, and if weather conditions are favorable, it is likely that by the beginning of the next day [Wednesday], the wildfire could be under control.”
“But there’s no great certainty, because the access for operational teams on foot is very complex. That’s the main difficulty. Nonetheless, we are attempting to advance and control the only front we have,” emphasized Bruno Silva.
As of 8:15 PM, the fire was being fought by 229 personnel supported by 72 vehicles and six aerial resources, as reported on the official website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
The alert was triggered at 10:27 PM on Sunday, August 10, in the parish of Távora and Pinheiro, in Tabuaço municipality, Viseu district.
