Nearly 2,000 personnel were battling the four largest wildfires in mainland Portugal by 14:30 today in Arganil, Sátão, Trancoso, and Cinfães, supported by 641 vehicles and 18 aircraft, as reported by Civil Protection authorities.
The latest figures from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority website show that almost 900 personnel were fighting the fire that began on Wednesday in the parish of Piódão, in Arganil municipality, Coimbra district. The blaze later spread to the municipalities of Oliveira do Hospital and Pampilhosa da Serra (Coimbra), reaching Seia in the Guarda district.
In Sátão, Viseu district, 488 personnel were mobilized for the fire that started early Wednesday. Meanwhile, 458 crews were engaged in combating the blaze that erupted Saturday in Trancoso, Guarda district. An additional 164 personnel were addressing the fire in Cinfães, Viseu district.
