
“I have no doubt that by the end of the year we will once again have a surplus in the public accounts. We will again be able to say that we reduced IRS in the middle of the year, increased the solidarity supplement for the elderly, provided an extraordinary supplement to pensioners up to 1,567.50 euros, and even so, met the target regarding the balance of public accounts,” said Luís Montenegro during a speech at the Festa do Pontal, on the Calçadão da Quarteira, in Algarve.
Montenegro stated that the government will achieve this surplus while implementing the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), building houses, and rehabilitating health centers and schools.
“We are doing things with balance, with a sense of responsibility,” he noted, emphasizing that the Portuguese economy, despite the international context, “is performing well” and will “surprise many pessimists at the end of this year.”
