The final lists for the placement of teachers in preschool, basic, and secondary education for the 2025-2026 academic year, through the annual internal mobility and initial hiring competitions, were published today by the Directorate-General for School Administration (DGAE).
A total of 22,051 full and part-time positions were available for competition.
According to the authorities, 14,304 teachers received full-time positions through the internal mobility competition, with part-time positions assigned to the remaining 3,151.
Of the 17,455 career teachers assigned positions, 752 are teachers linked to an Association/School Board indicated by educational institutions “as having no teaching component,” 14,070 are from the Pedagogical Zone Board, and 2,633 are teachers “intending to temporarily perform duties” in another school in mainland Portugal.
Among the 1,444 teachers placed through initial hiring with fixed-term contracts, 1,392 obtained full-time positions, of which 326 will renew their contracts from the previous academic year.
The Ministry of Education states that in schools located in areas considered with a higher shortage of teachers, positions were assigned to 2,788 teachers in the Lisbon region, 2,454 in the Porto region, 1,436 on the Setúbal Peninsula, and 981 in the Algarve through both competitions.
“Among the recruitment groups, it was in the 1st cycle of basic education (4,846), in special education 1 (1,502), and in Portuguese for the 3rd cycle of basic education and secondary education (1,234) that the most positions were assigned,” the statement highlights.
Teachers placed through the internal mobility competition have until Tuesday to accept the position on the DGAE’s SIGRHE electronic platform and are expected to present themselves at school on September 1st.
