The Prime Minister has canceled his planned holiday break, initially scheduled from today until August 22.
Luís Montenegro had been on vacation for the past five days, although he maintained a public agenda on four of those days.
Portugal has been on alert due to the fire risk since August 2, with several fires in the northern and central regions consuming over half of the approximately 75,000 hectares of burnt area this year.
The alert status has been extended until Sunday, announced the Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, following a visit to the ANEPC.
“Faced with 22 consecutive days of intense heat showing no signs of easing, the Government will once again extend the alert status until Sunday,” the minister stated to the press.
