A Benfica fan convicted of killing an Italian rival surrendered to the police.

An SL Benfica fan, sentenced to prison for fatally running over an Italian rival in 2017, surrendered to the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Thursday, October 16, reports indicate.

A source familiar with the case disclosed that Luís Pina is currently with the PJ at the Cascais Court.

Following this, the No Name Boys member will be transported to Caxias prison to serve his sentence.

Meanwhile, Luís Pina’s lawyer, Carlos Melo Alves, confirmed that his client surrendered “to serve the sentence he was condemned to.”

“Luís Pina surrendered to serve the sentence he was condemned to, now that the legal process has concluded,” he stated.

As reported by another outlet and confirmed, Luís Pina received a four-year prison sentence in 2020 for grossly negligent homicide of Marco Ficini, a member of Fiorentina’s fan club ‘O Club Settebello’ and a Sporting fan.

The incident occurred in the early hours of April 22, 2017, near the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, hours before a Sporting vs. Benfica match.

After altercations between fans of both clubs, Luís Pina ran over Ficini, dragging the body for 15 meters, only stopping the vehicle after completely passing over the victim, as confirmed by the court.

Subsequently, the Benfica fan left the scene without offering any assistance to the victim.

The remaining 21 defendants in the trial were acquitted, as the charges against them were not proven.
