IGSJ participates in the project A Guide to investigate deaths in prison, developed by the NGO – Penal Reform International
PRI is conducting a research process on how deaths in prison are investigated around the world, with the aim of identifying good practices and common challenges to inform new guidance to support national authorities and others to improve policy and practice. To this end, PRI is looking at the different legal frameworks, the authorities and mechanisms involved, the practices and outcomes of such investigations.
The project is financially supported by the University of Nottingham and will result in the publication of a policy brief, containing key features of effective external investigations and practical recommendations for improving institutional responses in different contexts.
The IGSJ was heard as part of this research.
