A Portuguese man “seriously injured” while trying to stop an attack in Annecy is “out of danger”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sends its “profound thanks” to the citizen for his “act of courage and bravery”.

The Portuguese man who was “seriously injured” while trying to stop the assailant’s actions on the playground in Annecy, France, is “out of danger”, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“During this tragic event, a Portuguese citizen, who was trying to prevent the assailant from fleeing from the police, was seriously injured and is now out of danger,” the statement said.

According to the French police description, the Portuguese man’s name is Manuel, he is around 70 years old and was accidentally hit by a police bullet while trying to stop the assailant.

The ministry deplored “the incident, a knife attack, which occurred
yesterday in a playground in Annecy, in the French Alps, expressing its solidarity
solidarity with the injured children, adults and their families”.

“For this act of courage and bravery, a word of profound thanks. Through the Consulate General of Portugal in Lyon, the situation is being monitored by the local authorities and the hospital, and all necessary support is being given to this citizen”, assures the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The French government spokesman said that two of the four children injured in the knife attack in Annecy were still on life-support, before the French president visited the scene of the incident in eastern France.

On Thursday, a knife-wielding assailant wounded six people – including four young children – in a park in the French Alpine town of Annecy, and was arrested after the attack, the French Interior Ministry said.
