A member of the Portuguese Navy assisted a Belgian triathlete in distress during the XTERRA Triathlon event in Golegã last Saturday.
The Navy stated in a communication released this Tuesday, “Second-Lieutenant Paulo Gonçalves, while participating in the XTERRA Triathlon in Golegã held on Saturday, May 31, exhibited a true spirit of camaraderie, stopping his own race to assist a Belgian triathlete who was in significant difficulties.”
The Armed Forces branch further described Paulo Gonçalves as “a true winner” and “a source of pride for all who serve in the Navy.”
