A strike in the Metro starts today. It will last a month, but the company provides assurance.

Workers of Metro de Lisboa will commence a strike on Friday, affecting overtime hours and special events, including the Women’s Champions League final on Saturday and the Santos Populares festival. Despite these concerns, the company has assured that the strike “will not have an impact on the regular transport service.”

Sara Gligó of the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans) stated that the strike on overtime work and special events will last for 30 days, renewable for the same period.

Metro de Lisboa (ML) confirmed that the strike, starting at 00:00 on Friday, will not disrupt regular operations, although there might be potential reinforcement of services.

The strike, organized by Fectrans, aims to demand better wages and working conditions, including an increase in meal allowances and a reduction in the workweek to 35 hours.

The company emphasized in a statement that “the strike starting from May 23, 2025, for 30 days, renewable, will not impact the usual transport service.”

These assurances follow union warnings that the strike could affect the upcoming Women’s Champions League final on Saturday and the Lisbon Festivities throughout June.
