Our House – The Lake Farmhouse
Reguengos de Monsaraz, Alqueva. Reservations to
ca*******@jo*********.pt
. 4.500€ for a minimum of six people, with full board.
It was in Alqueva that José Avillez found, unintentionally, the estate that would kick-start his first adventure in the hotel business. It was with his wife Sofia Ulrich that, in the search for an ideal vacation home, he stumbled upon a 65-hectare plot of land in Campino, which they both fell in love with. Thus, in the space where there was only a ruin, together they gave birth to Casa Nossa, a village whose foundations are based on typical Alentejo architecture. Designed to be rented entirely, with full board and service that promises to be identical to that of a five-star hotel, it has capacity for 20 people. It has 10 suites, two swimming pools, wine cellar, wine tasting room, gym, paddle tennis, show room, cinema, tennis court and services such as massages, yoga classes and boat trips on the lake. The cuisine, of course, is one of the highlights: it follows the “farm to table” model and approaches a more familiar register. “It’s very much what I like to eat at home – or would, if I had more time,” the chef explained to Observador at the time.

Red
Rua Dr. Evaristo Sousa Gago, 2, Melides. Tel: 915280511. From 287€ (low season).
A little over a decade ago, the secret was revealed to The New York Times: Comporta was the secret vacation destination – perhaps a little less so now – of French fashion designer Christian Louboutin who, in his real estate portfolio, already owned two houses in Portugal, one in Lisbon, the other near Melides. It was precisely in this village on the Alentejo coast that he launched his first boutique hotel this spring. It’s called Red – the creator’s signature color, which is in several details of the house, from tiles to textiles -, has 13 rooms, a restaurant that highlights the Alentejo product called Xtian, and a luxurious and eclectic decoration, signed by the Spanish Patrícia Medina, antique dealer, restorer and design consultant, who drank from the imaginary of various places in the world to create an aesthetic that mixes Portuguese, Moroccan or Egyptian elements.
Verdelago Resort
Verdelago Resort – Castro Marim, 8950-411, Altura. Tel: 281 101 601. 2 bedrooms from €760 per night; townhouses from €840 per night.
It still smells fresh: the Algarve’s “only sustainable luxury development” opened its doors earlier this summer. Between Praia Verde and Altura (and exclusive access to the sandy beach just 500 meters away) it’s no wonder the unit has already been described as “the Comporta of the Algarve”. It is green and sea as far as the eye can see, so much so that of the 86 hectares it occupies, only 8.7% are occupied by buildings. Surrounded by an immense pine forest, the 50 luxury accommodations are divided into apartments (from T1 to T4) and townhouses (villas with two or three bedrooms), guaranteeing all privacy to guests. Seeking the imaginary of the organic, natural and handmade, the decoration was in charge of Dexter Moren, from Studio Moren, and Sofia Andrez, from Andrez & Andrez. Verdelago also includes an infinity pool, an exclusive club where Salicórnia, a restaurant with the signature of chef Marco Alban, and two cocktail bars are located, not forgetting the tennis courts, paddle tennis, soccer, among many others. If you prefer relaxed walks surrounded by nature, bet on the pedestrian paths – cycling too – with about seven kilometers. https://verdelago.com/

M Welness
Herdade da Malhadinha Nova Country House & Spa, Albernoa, Beja. Tel: 284 965 432. From 400€ per night.
If you are looking for a true wellness experience, take note of the direction: Herdade da Malhadinha Nova Country House & Spa, Albernoa, Beja. With 110 square meters, a sensory shower, three treatment rooms and sauna, in what promises to be only the first M Wellness Spa space it can be difficult to distinguish the interior from the exterior. In the renovated space, designed by the Aires Mateus studio, the objective was to establish a “deep connection with nature”, an aspect visible in the colors, in the coatings, in the imperfection of the small details and in the walls torn by huge windows, overlooking the Alentejo estate. Another of the great novelties are the exclusive facial treatments in Alentejo of the Azorean brand Ignae, which contemplate the needs of each skin in the combination of creams and serums, aiming at different objectives – there are from detoxifying treatments, to moisturizers, relaxation or collagen stimulation. You can also count on various body massages, individual or as a couple, or more physical activities, such as yoga. For guests’ exclusive use.

Bela Vista Hotel & Spa
Av. Tomás Cabreira, 8500-802 Portimão. Tel.: 282 460 280. From 248€ per person.
It wasn’t just the new Bistrô by Vistas. In addition to the new restaurant – a space for “every day”, signed by the starred chef João Oliveira – the Bela Vista Hotel, a five-star unit next to Praia da Rocha, has two more novelties. First, the total renovation of the 20 rooms of the “Garden” wing, now more comfortable, lighter and fresher, characteristics visible in the colors (whites, greens, a shade of yellow, but above all blue), in the patterns and in the new furniture. At the head of the process was the decorator Graça Viterbo, the same who, 12 years ago, when the five-star hotel was inaugurated, designed the rest of the hotel’s spaces. The encounter between the simple and the chic, the surprising and the current, were the guiding thread in this work. The second novelty: the creation of a new gym overlooking the beach and the sea, with treadmills, bicycles, weight bars and wellness balls. Open 24 hours a day.
