As the popular saying goes, “after the storm comes the calm,” and this week, at least in weather terms, it seems to hold true. After several days of poor weather, spring finally appears to have arrived.
The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts sunny days ahead with temperatures around 30°C, with only a few exceptions.
Sunshine begins to emerge today, Tuesday, April 22, amidst partially cloudy skies. The only exceptions are the Azores and Coimbra, where meteorologists predict light rain.
Temperatures are expected to max out at around 20°C in most districts, reaching up to 22°C in Faro and Madeira. In Lisbon, temperatures are not expected to exceed 19°C, and in Porto, they should remain at 17°C.
In Évora and the Azores, highs should reach 20°C, as well as in Braga, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Setúbal, and Beja.
On Wednesday, April 23, forecasts indicate a rise of several degrees, with sunshine expected across most of the country. The sole exception will be the Azores archipelago, where some rain is anticipated.
The hottest districts will be Santarém, Setúbal, and Beja, with maximums of 25°C, as well as Braga, Lisbon, and Faro with 24°C. The cooler districts will be Guarda and Aveiro, which will not surpass 19°C. In Porto, temperatures should reach 20°C and 23°C in Évora.
On Thursday, April 24, temperatures are expected to rise further, with sunshine prevailing over much of the country. The IPMA predicts a high of 28°C for Santarém, 27°C for Braga, Lisbon, Setúbal, and Beja, and 26°C for Vila Real, Leiria, Évora, Sines, and Faro. In Porto, meteorologists expect a high of 22°C.
Aveiro will be the coolest district, with a maximum of 20°C. In the Azores, rain will cease, but like in Madeira, the skies will remain partly cloudy.
