Highway 1 (A1), closed to traffic this afternoon due to a fire in Arrabal, in the municipality of Leiria, has already been reopened, a GNR source told Lusa.
According to the same source, the road, which connects Lisbon to Porto, was reopened in both directions at 20:27.
“There is already unrestricted traffic, but it could be closed again at any time if the smoke intensifies,” he added.
According to the website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority, the alert for the fire was given at 13:47.
By 21:10, 213 operatives were on the scene, supported by 63 vehicles.
The National Road 113 (EN 113), which connects Leiria to Ourém, in the district of Santarém, was also closed during the afternoon due to another fire that broke out in Caranguejeira, in the town of Lagoa da Pedra, in the municipality of Leiria, and is still closed in both directions, between the localities of Padrão and Parracheira, revealed GNR source.
The alert for this fire was given at 13:48 and 171 operatives are in the theater of operations, supported by 50 vehicles.
The councilor for Civil Protection of the Chamber of Leiria, Luís Lopes, said that the fires “decreased in intensity” and that the trail machines are on the ground.
“The means are being positioned to make the perimeter of the fires. We hope to have the situation under control in the next few hours,” said the mayor.
