A section of the A4 motorway was closed in both directions from 3:00 PM, with traffic rerouted to National Road 15.
The accident, which occurred in the Lamas de Orelhão (Mirandela) to Vila Real direction, resulted in the death of a 67-year-old woman and left another passenger, a man aged between 70 and 75, with minor injuries.
The death was confirmed at the scene by the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle.
The rescue operation involved six personnel supported by 18 vehicles and the INEM helicopter based in Macedo de Cavaleiros.
