Contacted by Lusa, the president of the Porto Merchants Association, Rubens de Carvalho, clarified that the public tender only sets minimum values and they expect a similar number to last year’s, with “around 100 streets” participating.
The traditional Christmas tree on Avenida dos Aliados will be at least 30 meters high and 15 meters wide, with additional trees placed throughout the city.
Rubens Carvalho also admitted that the expansion of decorative elements, though growing annually, is “limited due to the Metro do Porto construction work.”
The public tender, launched on Monday, has a base price of 520,000 euros, the same as presented in 2024, and divides the city into two geographic areas for the installation of lights: the Aliados area and other streets.
According to the tender documents, the lights are officially set to be switched on November 29, “likely between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM.”
From Sunday to Thursday, the lights are scheduled to be on from 5:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of public holidays from 5:30 PM to midnight.
The dismantling of decorations will be carried out between January 7, 2026, and February 1.
