Almost 20 councils in the districts of Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro today present a maximum fire danger, according to the calculations of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.
The northern and central interior districts and Faro have the majority of districts in very high danger.
In high danger is most of the northern, central and southern coastal area, except the Algarve region.
The fire danger, determined by IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum, and the calculations are obtained from the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.
Today’s weather forecast is for cloudless or clear skies, with sometimes strong winds on the west coast and highlands, especially from the afternoon. It is also expected a small drop in temperature, especially in the North and Center regions.
Maximum temperatures will range from 37 degrees Celsius in Evora and Castelo Branco to 23 degrees in Aveiro.
Temperatures can reach 37ºC and there are districts with yellow warning
