The IPMA has placed almost all municipalities in the 18 districts of mainland Portugal under very high and high fire risk. According to the institute’s calculations, the risk of rural fires will remain high in some districts at least until Monday.
This risk, determined by the IPMA, encompasses five levels ranging from reduced to maximum. The calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation over the last 24 hours.
Due to the hot weather, the IPMA has issued an orange alert for the districts of Bragança, Évora, Guarda, Vila Real, and Beja until 6 PM today, after which it will transition to yellow until 6 PM Thursday due to persistently high maximum temperature values.
The IPMA has also issued a yellow alert for the district of Faro due to hot weather until 6 PM today, and for Viseu, Porto, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre until 6 PM Thursday.
The orange alert is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a moderate to high meteorological risk and yellow when there is a risk for certain activities dependent on the weather conditions.
