About 40 people are involved in assaults at a fair in Tavira.

Several people were injured and two individuals were identified after a group of approximately 40 people became involved in a disturbance at the Feira de S. Francisco in Tavira on Friday night, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported today.

The altercation between vendors and a group of young visitors at the fair and exhibition park was triggered by damage the youths allegedly caused to a fairground ride.

In a statement, the Faro District Command indicated that although the PSP responded swiftly to the incident, the disorder had already spread to various points, “with around 40 people involved in mutual assaults.”

The authorities immediately requested reinforcements to the scene and conducted “the necessary police intervention to restore public order,” as the group of youths fled.

Despite the restoration of normalcy, the altercation resulted in several injuries—one of whom required medical assistance from the Tavira Firefighters—and some damage to furniture and equipment that has yet to be quantified.

According to the PSP, despite the complexity of the situation, “two suspects have already been identified, and investigative efforts are underway to identify the others.”
