Several regions in the interior north and center, as well as the Algarve, are at a very high risk of rural fires, according to IPMA.
The institute indicates that the rural fire risk will remain elevated at least until Saturday due to the hot weather.
This fire risk, determined by IPMA, has five levels ranging from low to maximum. Calculations are derived from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation amounts over the last 24 hours.
The forecast for hot weather prompted Civil Protection to issue a warning on Tuesday for a very high to maximum rural fire risk in the north and center of the country, as well as the Algarve, in light of expected high temperatures in the coming days.
According to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), temperatures could reach 40 degrees in the southern interior region, as well as in the Tejo and Douro valleys.
The Authority cites IPMA data, highlighting a relative humidity below 30% in much of the territory, “with weak night-time recovery.”
