Accident in Lisbon: Victims are 6 young Angolans. Ambassador reacts

“It was with dismay that we learned of the passing this Sunday in Lisbon of six young Angolans, victims of a tragic traffic accident”, read a short note sent to Lusa.

According to the message, the Angolan ambassador to Portugal, Carlos Alberto Fonseca, remembered them as “young individuals with a bright future ahead” from whom the country “expected much.”

“May the bereaved families find the necessary strength to overcome this moment of immense pain, receiving all our solidarity,” the note states.

“At this moment of grief, on behalf of myself and all the staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in the Portuguese Republic, we extend to the bereaved families our deepest condolences for these irreparable losses,” the message concludes.

Six people died early Sunday after a light vehicle spun out of control on Avenida das Forças Armadas, in Lisbon, and caught fire following the impact, leaving the victims charred.

The alarm for the fatal accident was raised around 03:40 a.m. on Sunday.

According to a PSP source who spoke to Lusa on Sunday, a light vehicle “spun out of control, hit a pillar, and caught fire, with five people inside who were charred.”

The six individuals who died in a charred car early this Sunday in Lisbon were “three women and three men,” stated Commissioner Dinarte Diniz of the PSP, in a press briefing in the early afternoon. The vehicle, a BMW 520, “hit a curb and then went out of control.”
