Águas Públicas do Alentejo has awarded Acciona a one-year contract for the construction and commissioning of the Ermidas do Sado wastewater treatment plant in Portugal.
According to the corporation, the contract is worth 3,1 million euros and the facility will serve 4,100 people.
Fifty percent of the treated water is derived from industrial sources, eradicating pollutants and returning the water to the environment without negative environmental effects.
The new plant will be constructed in the Setubal district, on the location of the existing WWTP, without interfering with the operation of the existing facility.
The facility is equipped with an innovative biological treatment line consisting of pre-treatment and a lamination tank, which reduces the plant’s footprint and, consequently, its visual and environmental impact. This is the first time Acciona has used a biological remedy of this type in Portugal. Utilizing a high-performance biofilter, a system will also be installed to eliminate odors.
Acciona has previously collaborated with guas Pblicas do Alentejo on projects such as the Alcácer do Sal WWTP, the Monte da Rocha DWTP, and, most recently, the renovation and enhancement of the Alvito DWTP.
Portugal was one of Acciona’s first international markets, and the company has developed more than seventy projects there, including infrastructure works of all types as well as wind and photovoltaic assets.
Acciona has contributed to the construction of iconic infrastructure projects in this country, including the Oriente Station, Infante Don Henrique Bridge, Olho Marina, and Alqueva Dam. It has constructed over thirty wastewater and drinking water treatment facilities in the water sector. For instance, the Companheira Wastewater Treatment Plant in Portimo and the Alcantarilha Wastewater Treatment Plant, both in the Algarve.
